Go on the date, but swear to the friend you will make it up. Go on the date, of course! Friends can wait. Go to the party, but swear to the guy/girl that you will make it up. Go to the party. The date can wait. For a long while. Stop at the party for a little bit, but end up going to the date still.

Taking them on a date. Taking them on a nice date. Taking them on a VERY fancy date. There is ALWAYS time later. Right? Umping up the together time a bit.

Earn money so they can move, too. If there's a fiery burning passion, there's a way. Email and Skype every chance possible. Email when there is time. Skype and email and text and call every day. You're soul mates. Tell them you'll email, but cut the lines. There's plenty of hotties in the world.

Are offended, but what the heck. You both obviously don't like each other THAT much, right? Cry your eyes out, but pump up the volume on your relationship. Cry, and to find out why and what really happened. Was that really him, even? Cry, and pretend it didn't happen. It will all sit in the back of your mind for a while, but you will see if this is just a test of your relationship. Cry. And maybe even doubt if they are worth it.
