The largest and most intricate crosses are the processional crosses. Mounted on long poles and decorated with cloth streamers at the base of the cross, they are used in ceremonies and festivals throughout the church calendar. This cross was cast in one piece from a copper alloy. Later crosses typically have separate arms and shafts joined with rivets.
