The Recession Quiz

I feel scared and uncertain and am considering closing my business and getting a job. I’ll probably need to eat lean for a while and start saving some money, but overall I expect that I’ll weather the storm just fine. I’m excited and expect to come out of a recession in better shape than I went in. I have no doubt that I’ll be more successful later than I am now. I’m nervous, and I expect to feel a lot of negative effects, but I think I’ll survive.

Everybody has to go. Pink slip Friday is coming soon… I can do just about everything on my own. I’ll probably cut back to a skeleton crew and work a little harder. I don’t expect to let anyone go, but we’ll probably play it safe and not hire anyone new. Put out the want ads. I see the recession as a chance to pick up the talented people who were let go by other companies.

Cancel everything. There’s no sense of marketing during a recession. Nobody’s buying anything anyway. I’ll begin scaling down my marketing bit by bit as I see what’s happening with the economy. I’ll play it safe. I’ll keep the marketing in place that’s working now, but won’t spend too much time looking for new ways to market. Time to increase the budget. While my competitors are cutting back their marketing budgets, I’m going to increase mine, so I can slowly capture a larger portion of the market share…the share that they lose.

I send out an occasional greeting card and once in a while we put together a newsletter. I send out sale promotions every now and then. I try to communicate with my past customers multiple times per month. The last time they did business with me.

I don’t expect to be spending any money on training or seminars. I plan on attending more seminars during a recession than normally. I’d be willing to attend a seminar or training if the price is right and I don’t have to travel. The only training I’m looking for is how to build a bomb shelter.

I would cut everything. Across the board. I would cut payroll and marketing. I would try to cut back in miscellaneous, not revenue producing expenses. I’m not cutting back anywhere. I’m increasing spending.

I don’t expect to be in business. I expect to dominate, and possibly put my competition out of business. I figure my competition will be in better shape than I will be. I predict it’ll be a wash and we’ll all be about where we started.

A recession would demolish my business. A recession would energize me and give me the boost I need. A recession would give me a black eye and a bloody nose, but I’d still be alive. A recession would knock the wind out of me, but I’d be able to continue.

I would raise the stakes and increase my spending even more. I would think they were nuts. I would whimper. I wouldn’t pay much attention.

I operate a lead and customer generating machine. I know exactly what I’ll get out of it each month and I can tell you exactly where every lead and customer came from. I rarely get any new leads or customers. There’s no system. I take what I can get. Not much of a system. My system isn’t perfect, but I get a decent supply of new leads and customers each month.
